Responses also indicated limited awareness of emerging journal practices for disclosing the gender representation of Editorial Boards and for transparent monitoring. These insights indicate opportunities for, in the immediate term: creating and disclosing inclusive board selection policies and priorities towards gender parity and justice, prioritizing voluntary disclosure in a safe environment, and protecting privacy to prevent misuse. In the medium term: enhancing values alignment across publishers and Editorial Boards for policy integration across editorial and journal practices, such as transparently tracking representation metrics towards clearly stated goals.

Towards the long-term goal of gender justice in publishing within sustainable energy research, WISER encourages our members to consider gender representation in Editorial Boards when selecting publication venues. We aim to further support our members interested in serving on Editorial Boards through a future workshop that builds on these survey findings.
